How we calculate your chart

A birth chart is only as good as the astronomy beneath it. This page explains, in plain terms, what happens when you press “Reveal my free preview”.

1. Your birth moment

Your local birth date and time are converted to Universal Time using the time-zone rules in force at your birthplace on that date (including daylight-saving and wartime changes), then to a Julian Day. ΔT (Earth’s rotation correction) is applied.

2. Planetary positions

Sun, Moon and planets are calculated from the VSOP87D planetary theory and the ELP/MPP02 lunar theory, corrected for light-time, annual aberration and nutation, and compared against the Swiss Ephemeris to roughly one arc-second. Rahu and Ketu use the mean lunar node by default (true node is an option).

3. The sidereal zodiac

Tropical longitudes are converted to the sidereal zodiac using the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the standard in India. Raman and Krishnamurti ayanamsas are available under Advanced settings.

4. Houses and divisional charts

The Lagna comes from your exact birth time and place. We use whole-sign houses for the main chart, Sripati bhava-chalit for house strength, and the classical Parashari rules for the sixteen varga charts (D1 to D60).

5. Dashas, strengths and yogas

Vimshottari and Yogini dashas start from the Moon’s exact nakshatra position. Shadbala, Ashtakavarga, Jaimini karakas and arudhas, yogas and doshas follow classical definitions. Annual charts (Varshaphal) are cast for the exact solar return.

6. The interpretation

Interpretation is rule-based: each statement is selected and combined from your own placements (sign, house, lord, dignity, aspects, dasha). It is written to be read by a non-specialist. It does not replace a consultation with a human astrologer, and no astrology should replace professional medical, legal or financial advice.
